Blivande Idéer AB
Stockholm, Sweden
Description
This volunteer role is about co-creating a lively and interesting cultural program. You'll help organise public cultural events using the shared resources of Blivande and the container village Frihamnstorget. You will support major community-led events like Valborg and the Mushroom Festival by helping with coordination and keeping track of to-dos. A lot of the work will be administrative, but some hands-on work before, during and after events is required. You'll also be involved in producing civic activities in the square, such as the Longest Table—a communal outdoor dinner, and Swap N Swag—a playful clothes-swapping event. Part of your role is connecting with people who want to organise smaller gatherings, and reaching out to communities to invite them to create something at the square. Indoors, you'll support non-profit and grassroots groups who receive space sponsorship for their events, helping them feel welcome and supported.
Accommodation, food and transport arrangements
You will have a private room, either in a shared flat or collective living. In addition to your pocket money, you’ll receive food allowance to buy and cook your own meals, giving you flexibility. For local transport, you can choose between a bicycle or a public transport card for the duration of your stay.
Training during the activity
Receive cultural producer training and learn project management with guidance from our experienced team. Gain insight into planning and executing large-scale events. Get hands-on experience in the creative and cultural sector while working closely with a variety of artists and community members. Tasks are adapted to your skills, and there’s space to explore your own initiative through a personal project if time allows (optional).
Participant profile
As a volunteer you will thrive at Blivande if you are hands-on, proactive, and community-minded, and enjoy working in a creative and dynamic environment. For this role it is important that you are organised and enjoy keeping track of all things to-do. Some form of administrative and coordination experience will make it easier for you in the beginning as it will support your developing project management skills. Your role will entail a lot of communication with different stakeholders, so it is good that you feel comfortable with online and offline communication. Please be aware that a lot of cultural productions happen during the weekend and evenings. This means that we have flexible working hours. Sometimes you will be working on weekends or evenings, but you can then take days during the week off, to compensate and rest. As you will work with a large variety of people, it is important that you enjoy helping others, have an inclusive mindset (we have many neurodivergent community members) and thrive in community settings, where many people need to be taken into account for decision making. We are looking only for volunteers that want to spend an entire year with us from mid January 2026 to mid January 2027. We currently can’t accommodate different timelines, therefore we would ask you to only apply if you can commit to this timeframe. Finally, part of your role includes supporting the taking care of the premises. Every team member (both staff and volunteers) has certain responsibilities to help keep the space clean and tidy for everyone.
