Veraldarvinir
Krýsuvík, Iceland
Description
Krýsuvík, located on Iceland’s Reykjanes peninsula, is a geothermal and volcanic area within the UNESCO-listed Reykjanes Geopark. This ESC project focuses on developing local, organic, and sustainable agriculture. Volunteers will renovate greenhouses, cultivate vegetables and fruits, and prepare the land for future farming. Key tasks include land restoration, erosion control, composting with organic waste, and planting trees. The area covers 300 hectares and includes old tree plantations to monitor. Volunteers will also help improve the natural surroundings, making them accessible and safe, while supporting biodiversity in this unique Icelandic landscape. This is a learning exchange project where everyone contributes knowledge, shares experiences, and grows as environmentally conscious global citizens.
Accommodation, food and transport arrangements
Volunteers will stay in a shared house with 10 rooms (3–4 people per room), kitchen, bathrooms, Wi-Fi, and laundry. Beds and sheets are provided; bring your own sleeping bag. Meals are included, and everyone shares cooking and cleaning duties. The food is healthy, mostly vegetarian, with vegan options, focusing on sustainability. Volunteers are encouraged to share recipes and explore eco-friendly living while enjoying a collaborative and intercultural experience. A minibus will transport volunteers from and to Reykjavík (BSI station) on the first and last day.
Training during the activity
