Il Nodo is a consortium of social cooperatives offering assistance, support, accommodation and accompa-niment services to people in difficulty. Services are provided in areas such as immigration and reception, protection and education, active labour policies, disability and social agriculture. This ESC project will focus on reception facilities for unaccompanied foreign minors (16/17 years) and young adults (up to 21 years). They come mainly from North and Sub Saharan Africa, Bangladesh and Middle East. They arrived in Sicily by crossing the Mediterranean Sea and after having passed through Libyan prisons and Tunisia. Theirs are stories of extreme poverty, human rights violations and war. They are hosted in Catania, in flats, in a family context, under the 24/7 educational supervision of a staff composed of educators, cultural media-tors, social workers and psychologists. The main task is to support them in building a new identity and so-cial, work and housing integration.

Accommodation The 4 volunteers will be hosted in an apartment, in single rooms, fully equipped with all the facilities, and provided with kitchen equipment, bed sheets, blankets, and towels. Internet connection will be provid-ed. The apartment will be in the Centre of the city. Andress: Via Conte Ruggero, 28 Catania Food The food money is 170 € per monthly. Payment will be made monthly as bank transfer in each volunteer’s bank account. According to their shifts, volunteers can also have lunch or dinner in the communities together with the operators and beneficaries.
Fortbildung im Rahmen der Tätigkeit
Volunteers have various tasks, among them that of accompanying the operators in carrying out their normal daily routines by becoming relational reference points and supporting them in their integration in the community. Particular attention will be given in the support and shared work with minors and new adults in the communities, in the spaces of the Nodo in order to increase their sense of initiative, social entrepreneurship and solidarity work.

For the current year, special attention is devoted to practical training in the social agricultural field. The Nodo manages lands confiscated from crime where our young migrants, with the support of tutors, man-age an olive grove, an organic vegetable garden and the maintenance of a wooded area within the Etna Volcano Natural Park. The activities include support in the maintenance and care of green spaces, olive groves and the social vegetable garden within the Nodo such as planting fruit, vegetables, daily care of plants and olive trees, use of agricultural tools and their maintenance, awareness of the work the mi-grants involved and the care required, in order to create a sustainable and organic ecosystem.
