Description

The project involves working with people with disabilities and/or learning difficulties, who also face some economic problematic situations enhancing their autonomy, initiative and communication skills, and social/professional integration. Volunteers will be involved in different activities to help SEN individuals succeed in their learning path and life. They will be working at AEVA and its associated partners. Activities: • Support the students in order to help their learning and inclusion, according to their needs, expectations and potential: in/outside the classroom, during break/lunch contexts; • Support the staff of the Multidisciplinary Team – in the Learning process in different contexts: in/outside the classroom; • Enhancing the target group in the basics of mathematic, going shopping, going around the city to help them to move autonomously, participating in sports activities • Helping the target group in their studies and daily routines • Bio farming, etc

Accommodation, food and transport arrangements

They will be accommodated in twin rooms in a modern 3 room flat, fully equipped, 500 meters away from our association. During the week, they will have the meals at the canteen where they can choose between fish meal, meat, diet/vegetarian meal. They will be given a monthly allowance for food and other products and the fixed monthly amount for Pocket money for other expenses. Local transport for specific activities or to go to the different building of our association will be provided to the volunteers, using our dedicated buses or by taking a lift with any of our collaborators.

Training during the activity

On arrival, they will participate in an integration programme. They will be involved in group dynamics in order to get to know each other better and avoid conflicts among them. Development of social and intercultural skills is also foreseen during this training as well as a good integration in the community, letting the volunteers knowing the local and regional habits, cultural aspects, festivities, etc. Specific training, knowledge and competences in working with individuals with special needs and some training on bio/organic-farming will also be organized before they start their work.

Participant profile

Motivated volunteers for working with international groups, responsible, with enthusiasm and interest in sharing their own culture and to work in teams. Flexibility in changing or developing situations is essential, as well as an ability to work with young individuals with special needs. Portuguese and/or Spanish and English language or communication skills are of advantage. Another important aspect is the capacity of the volunteer to work with SEN young individuals, be inclusive and being prepared to learn how to deal with them in specific situations, how to help them overcome some problems and be autonomous.
