Description
The volunteer will join CDRO’s Projects and Programs Unit and contribute to strengthening the communication and visibility system that supports community development processes in the rural communities with which the organization collaborates. They will support the dissemination of the association’s activities and projects related to local and community development. Their contribution will include updating the organization’s website and social media, producing digital and printed materials such as videos, spots, stories, manuals and posters, managing and updating communication files, monitoring the dissemination of materials and the achieved results, and creating templates for institutional communication. They will give greater visibility to CDRO’s actions and to promote awareness and commitment around community development, understood also as community strengthening, social dynamization, inclusive territorial development. The volunteer will contribute 35 hours per week.
Accommodation, food and transport arrangements
The volunteer will live in Totonicapán near the municipal building in zone 1, surrounded by services such as markets and pharmacies. The organization covers rent and basic services such as electricity, water, and internet. The house has a single room and kitchen, is located on the second floor, and is 2 km from the office. The volunteer can buy food in local eateries or prepare meals in the kitchen. They can also bring food to the office. Local minibuses facilitate transportation in 15 minutes, and there are taxis and buses.
Training during the activity
Upon joining CDRO, volunteers take part in a training protocol that includes introduction to the CDRO team, orientation about CDRO and visit to the communities. The volunteer will gain a practical understanding of what community development entails through observation and active participation. They will learn how an NGO engaged in this field operates and develop awareness of the broader humanitarian and cooperation context. They will strengthen civic and intercultural competences, problem-solving, teamwork and collaboration skills. All skills will be certified through the Youthpass.
Participant profile
We are looking for a motivated person, interested in learning and at the same time willing to share their own skills, with a genuine interest in human rights, community processes, and social communication. Previous experience or developed competences in digital communication, social media management, and content creation (articles, infographics, short videos) are preferable. The ability to write clear and engaging texts, develop effective communication strategies, and interact confidently with stakeholders and media is highly valued. The ideal volunteer will have teamwork skills, organizational autonomy, and a proactive and creative approach to problem-solving. Sensitivity to cultural diversity and strong motivation to actively contribute to the success of the activities are essential. Eligibility requirements: candidates must be between 18 and 35 years old and may have already participated in previous ESC volunteering experiences.
