Join Sociedade de História Natural to contribute to the conservation and promotion of paleontological heritage. Volunteers will engage in fieldwork, laboratory preparation, educational outreach, and the development of exhibits that highlight Portugal’s rich fossil record. Accommodation, food and transport arrangements
This is a fully funded project. Volunteers will receive: Monthly stipend and kitchen support as per the EU guidelines for ESC 2024. Accommodation: Provided in our facilities, with two options available: Santa Cruz Facility: Located next to the laboratories, this facility includes one kitchen, three bathrooms, three rooms, and a large garden, perfect for relaxation and outdoor activities. Cambelas Apartment: A fully equipped two-room flat in a peaceful coastal village near ocean, offering comfort and convenience . All accommodation options are included, ensuring a safe environment.
Training during the activity
Volunteers will receive comprehensive training to enhance their skills and knowledge in various areas, including: Europass Certification: Guidance on creating and managing Europass documents to showcase skills and experiences gained during the project. GIS Applications: Hands-on training in Geographic Information Systems (GIS), focusing on mapping and analyzing geological and environmental data. Geological Skills: Introduction to fundamental geology concepts, paleontological techniques, and their applications in heritage conservation.
Participant profile
We are looking for motivated individuals aged 18-30 who are eager to contribute to the conservation and promotion of paleontological heritage. No prior experience is required, but participants should have a genuine interest in geology, environmental conservation, and cultural heritage. Ideal Candidates Should: Be open to learning new skills and working in a team-oriented environment. Have a proactive attitude, adaptability, and enthusiasm for fieldwork and laboratory tasks. Demonstrate an interest in education and public engagement activities. Be comfortable with living in a communal setting and participating in intercultural exchange. Preferred but Not Mandatory Skills: Basic knowledge of geology, paleontology, or environmental science. Familiarity with digital tools like GIS or other mapping software. Interest in creative activities such as exhibit design or educational outreach. Participants will have the opportunity to gain valuable hands-on experience, develop new skills, and contribute meaningfully to the preservation of natural and cultural heritage. This project is open to individuals from diverse backgrounds and encourages inclusivity and equal opportunities. ** Depends on your availability the mobility can be flexible between 9 to 12 months starting from October 1st 2025!
