The power of together

Open Doors Budapest

Salva Vita Alapítvány

BUDAPEST, Hungary

Description

Salva Vita Foundation is organizing a team volunteering activity in 2026 (Jan 21–Feb 3, plus travel days) for young people aged 18–30, with and without disabilities or special needs. The program focuses on improving and maintaining Szeglet Community Space (our headquarters) and developing essential daily life skills such as cooking, DIY, gardening, cleaning, and small repairs. Volunteers will also practice teamwork, foreign languages, and gain valuable work experience that supports independent living. Beyond practical tasks, the program offers personal growth, self-discovery, and the experience of diversity in a safe, inclusive environment. With a small international group (7 Hungarian and 2 foreign participants), the community is close-knit and supportive. Individual support is available according to needs, whether mentoring, coaching, personal assistance, or psychological support. This unique program fosters inclusion, cooperation, and meaningful shared experiences.

Accommodation, food and transport arrangements

We provide meals (usually lunch, cooked together) during the program, pocket money (for daily active participation), and, for foreign participants: meal allowance, accommodation, and travel costs (including local transport). In the European Solidarity Corps, travel costs are calculated based on the official distance calculator provided by the European Commission. The distance between the participant’s place of residence and the project venue determines the fixed travel grant. https://erasmus-plus.ec.europa.eu/resources-and-tools/distance-calculator

Training during the activity

The team volunteering actively addresses the issue of inclusion and diversity as one of the challenges facing society. A range of activities will allow you to meet and work with young people with special needs, such as those with autism, learning disabilities etc. The activity is a great help in developing independent living skills.

Participant profile

Young people aged 18-30 with or without disabilities or special needs can apply. (The accommodation is not fully accessible for wheelchair users.) We welcome young people who are open to people with disabilities. In the case of participants with disabilities, an accompanying person who speaks English and the participant's language is also expected to attend. The program covers the accompanying person's accommodation, meals, and travel expenses.
