Description
The project aims to support the rural communities of the Aristotelis Municipality in Halkidiki region, Greece. The activities aim at socializing the locals, empowering youth participation and activities for children and are essential for the well-being of local society during the winter and spring period. Tasks of the volunteers include: -Work with children and organisation of non-formal activities for the centers of youth creative activity (KDAP) -Management of local media to provide visibility and information about events and activities for the communities. -Organisation of local events and festivities (movie screenings, intercultural events). -Social media work and operation of the local web radio, creation of podcasts and broadcasts promoting social issues and matters of local interest. -Support for in actions for the protection of stray animals of the area, in cooperation with a local animal shelter. -Maintenance and operation of local community library of Stratoni.
Accommodation, food and transport arrangements
Volunteers will be accommodated in a fully equipped apartment in the center of the village of Stratoni, in shared rooms. Bathroom are also shared. The volunteers will receive individual food allowance and pocket money, at the beginning of each month, to cover their personal needs.
Training during the activity
Task related training. On-arrival and mid-term training by the Greek National Agency.
Participant profile
Volunteers will have to be 18-30 years old and be genuinely interest in the project. Knowledge of English language is going to be considered, as it will be the main communication language for the project but will not be a pre-requisite. Thus, at least a basic English (or Greek) language level is required, for volunteers to have at least one communication language to be used in the field or in case of need or emergency. Volunteers must be ready to live and operate in a small community during the project. Their interest in the topics of the activities and to come in contact with and support society in a more rural and “quiet” region is important. Furthermore, they will engage in some more “physical” tasks as part of the activities (e.g. external actions and campaigns, support in event implementation). Applicants should also be aware of the ESC 12-month limit rule for their participation (eligibility and as information).
