ENGIM in collaboration with AmaZOOnico - dedicated to rehabilitation and reinsertion of wild animals confiscated from illegal trade - seeks to protect and preserve the amazon forest as an ecosystem, by also addressing humans and animals communities living in there. Through conservation, education, and community engagement, the project aims to enhance the work of the staff to raise awareness about biodiversity protection and promote sustainable coexistence. The volunteer will support in the following activities: Assisting with the daily care of animals – feeding, cleaning and developing care protocols; Guiding tours for visitors and tourists to raise awareness about wildlife illegal trafficking and the importance of environmental conservation; Helping with the general maintenance of the center; Coordinating, programming and delivering English classes for adults (local staff) and children of the surrounding communities; Supporting daily administrative and communication tasks.

Comparticipação nas despesas de alojamento, alimentação e transporte

Volunteers will be accommodated in a guesthouse for volunteers in the rescue center. Basic utilities such as electricity, water, and internet will be available, though service may be intermittent due to contingencies. A monthly allowance of €700 will be provided, covering daily expenses and local transport. Food will be provided directly by the AmaZOOnico and shared with the other volunteers hosted at the facility. A laptop will be provided, and reimbursement for mobile phone expenses is included.Flexible working hours, including working on weekends, may be requested depending on the schedule.

Pre-departure training on humanitarian principles, security, and program-specific knowledge; Pre-departure training on political and cultural Ecuadorian context; On-site training on wildlife conservation, illegal trafficking, biosecurity, and intercultural approaches; Access to training resources for continuous learning; Regular briefings with ENGIM's technical and social staff;

Perfil do participante

We are looking for a motivated person willing to live in a rural, isolated area with limited leisure opportunities. The candidate should be flexible and open to a multicultural environment, as they will be surrounded by many other volunteers and expected to share common living spaces. The location presents certain security challenges, which require a modest lifestyle and strict adherence to safety protocols. A genuine interest in fieldwork is essential, along with the ability to adapt to demanding and unpredictable weather conditions. We are particularly seeking someone that, besides having a strong interest in wildlife and environmental conservation, has very good language skills and preferably a degree in languages or experience in teaching English to adults. Education & Training: Degree or background in languages, education, environmental sciences, or related fields; Experience teaching English to adults and/or children is an asset; Additional knowledge in environmental education, wildlife conservation and community development is highly valued. Skills & Competencies: Strong interpersonal and intercultural communication skills; Willingness to work in rural areas and within multidisciplinary teams; Proactivity, adaptability, and problem-solving attitude. Language & Technical Skills: Good knowledge of Spanish (minimum level B2); Proficiency in English; Eligibility: Candidates must be 18 to 35 years old, reside in one of the eligible countries (EU Member State, North Macedonia, Iceland, Liechtenstein or Turkey), have completed the compulsory Humanitarian Aid Volunteering training and not have participated before in individual Humanitarian Aid Volunteering. When adding together this new volunteering opportunity and any previous participation in EU volunteering programmes, the total duration cannot exceed 12 months.
