Description
The volunteer will be based in Nouakchott and will be under the direct supervision of the Programme Coordinator. The volunteer will support the management of assigned projects/programmes throughout their cycles, providing support in the formulation of new projects, the implementation of ongoing projects, the preparation of narrative reports and project justifications, reporting to key stakeholders (country coordination, project/programme coordination and health coordination). He/she will support in the identification and design of new projects. Tasks: He/she will support the operational and financial planning of MdM teams and their monitoring, take part in regular project monitoring exchanges with the teams (which may involve monitoring trips as required), take part in capacity-building for the project teams, to be assessed as required, support the coordination team in the reporting of ongoing projects by ensuring that guidelines are applied.
Accommodation, food and transport arrangements
The work will take place at the MdM Mauritania office in Nouakchott. The volunteer will then be accommodated in the organisation's guesthouse. Nouakchott is a quiet city, with several beaches, the general atmosphere is good. However, it is recommended to be careful when travelling. The volunteer will receive a monthly allowance of 570 € to cover their food and other expenses. Accommodation, return flights, visa and vaccination costs, basic equipment (laptop and mobile phone) will be provided.
Training during the activity
Volunteers will improve their professional knowledge through training in humanitarian action, and specific issues on security, gender, psychosocial support and will be provided with training resources to continue their learning. Those selected will receive briefings/training at MdM headquarters in Madrid with the different departments related to the mission and the position, as well as mandatory online trainings before they start their field work. Training sessions will take place both in the countries of the support and host organisations.
Participant profile
EDUCATION - 5 years' higher education in social sciences, health and/or politics or a similar field. - Knowledge of funding instruments and donor guidelines and project cycle management. EXPERIENCE - Experience or additional training in project strategy definition, formulation, implementation, monitoring, evaluation and capitalisation. - Training in public health or gender would be an asset. - Experience in the field of international cooperation. - Contextual knowledge (Mauritania and/or Sahel) is an asset. SKILLS - Project management, monitoring and evaluation, planning, - Teamwork and stress resistance. - Office package (Word, Excel and Internet). - Dynamism, perseverance, adaptability. - Good command of IT tools and the Office pack. - Working in a multicultural team. - Good knowledge of and interest in project themes: sexual and reproductive health, gender, gender-based violence. LANGUAGES - Fluent French essential. - Good level of Spanish and English preferred. - Arabic would be an asset. Eligibility : Candidates must be 18 to 35 years old, reside in one of the eligible countries (EU Member State, North Macedonia, Iceland, Liechtenstein or Turkey), have completed the compulsory Humanitarian Aid Volunteering training and not have participated before in individual Humanitarian Aid Volunteering. When adding together this new volunteering opportunity and any previous participation in EU volunteering programmes, the total duration cannot exceed 12 months.
