Description

The volunteer will support the maintenance and development of a community garden at FoEM’s Green Resource Centre in Floriana, while also participating in activities linked to the restoration of an old bakery on Comino. Tasks include gardening, organising educational activities, supporting community involvement, and contributing to the Food, Agriculture and Biodiversity campaign. Accommodation, food and transport arrangements

The volunteer will be accommodated in a shared apartment near FoEM’s offices, with all accommodation and utility costs covered. A monthly allowance will be provided for food and daily expenses. Travel to and from Malta will be reimbursed up to ESC limits. Transport related to activities in Floriana and Comino will be supported. The volunteer will be covered by private Henner insurance throughout the activity.

Training during the activity

Training will be provided through practical, hands-on learning and mentoring by FoEM staff. The volunteer will gain skills in community gardening, sustainability education, and community engagement. ESC on-arrival and mid-term trainings will be attended. Additional learning opportunities include workshops, skill-sharing sessions, and participation in FoEM events related to food, biodiversity, and sustainability.

Participant profile

The participant is a young person who enjoys working with nature, outdoor activities, and community-based projects. They are motivated to learn about urban gardening, sustainability, and heritage conservation, and are comfortable with hands-on physical work in different weather conditions. The participant is flexible, practical, and enjoys working in small teams. No gardening experience is required, but curiosity, reliability, and a willingness to learn are essential. An interest in environmental protection, community involvement, and sustainable living is important.
