Description

The volunteer will support Friends of the Earth Malta’s Zero Waste Campaign, which promotes waste reduction, circular economy solutions, and responsible consumption. Activities include assisting with policy advocacy, public consultations, communications, and community-based events such as workshops and awareness activities. The volunteer will also support projects focused on food waste reduction and public education. Accommodation, food and transport arrangements

The volunteer will be accommodated in a shared flat close to FoEM’s offices, with rent and utilities fully covered. A monthly allowance will be provided to cover food and personal expenses. Travel to and from Malta will be reimbursed up to ESC limits, and local transport costs related to volunteering activities will be supported. The volunteer will receive private Henner insurance for the duration of the placement.

Training during the activity

The volunteer will receive continuous on-the-job training through close collaboration with the Zero Waste Campaign Coordinator. Training topics include waste policy, circular economy principles, community engagement, and campaign communications. The volunteer will also take part in ESC on-arrival and mid-term trainings. Additional learning opportunities may include workshops, networking events, and collaboration with Zero Waste Europe and other partner organisations.

Participant profile

The participant is a young person interested in waste reduction, circular economy principles, and sustainable consumption. They are motivated to work with communities and support behavioural change through education and outreach. The participant is open-minded, communicative, and comfortable supporting events, workshops, and awareness activities. They are able to balance practical tasks with research or communication work. Prior experience in zero waste or environmental activism is not required, but enthusiasm for sustainability, community engagement, and inclusive environmental solutions is essential.
