The Other Music Academy (OMA) is a multilayered empowerment center with international community arts projects (www.othermusicacademy.eu ). We run a building in the small town of Weimar, considered one of Germany’s cultural capitals. Our building is in a phase of big renovations and transformation. We want to keep the house open to the community. During your ESC we invite you to co-develop a program for the use of our building, support us in keeping our OMAcafé open, run concerts and workshops. We want to involve you in our social media team, and give you the opportunity to work with our team in the implementation of our yearly festival (www.yiddishsummer.eu), and get to know logistics, management and hosting of a learning community. Besides supporting the facilitation of our OMA-building, you will also have the opportunity to develop a small-scale project on your own.

You'll receive a monthly ticket for public regional transportation in Weimar and all of Germany (the so-called “Deutschland Ticket”), and if desired a bicycle for inner-city transportation (Weimar is a bicycle-friendly town). We will provide accommodation for you. You'll share a flat in Weimar with 2 other volunteers. Each volunteer has their own room but share common areas (kitchen/bathroom). Money for food will be provided on a monthly basis (313 € / 10,43 € per day). Pocket money: will be provided on a monthly basis. It is 7 € per day.

You will receive support and information already before the start of your service. In Germany, you are going to participate in mandatory seminars (on arrival & mid term). This way we are ensuring that you can make the most of your time here and have the chance for ongoing personal development. At the OMA, you'll have a mentor for help and advice. You'll also take part in biweekly team meetings and regular feedback sessions. Another person from within our organization will help you out with bureaucratic hurdles and problems that may occur in the working environment.

We want to know the real you - not a bot! We welcome motivated, flexible, friendly, curious and self-confident volunteers with good communication skills and ideally a sense of humor. Basic to good knowledge of German might be useful, as we work a lot with local communities. Good skills in written and spoken English are necessary. It is very helpful for this position to have basic skills with management and communication tools. Ideally, you have previous experiences with hands-on community or event organising. At the same time, OMA is still in the middle of renovation and transformation. We are developing the house into a lively place for community, creativity and many different kinds of projects. This means we are also looking for people who are happy to get involved practically and are not afraid of hands-on work. Tasks may include cleaning, moving furniture, helping to set up rooms, painting walls, restoring floors, supporting small building projects or helping us transform the café area, for example by building a new bar. We also have a small adventure garden that needs care, attention and love. Around the house, we organise flea markets, concerts, BBQs, community events and many other activities that invite neighbours and local communities into the space. So if you enjoy combining communication, organisation, creativity and practical work, this could be a very good fit. We welcome volunteers from diverse backgrounds and aim for a work environment sensitive to discrimination. The OMA is not yet accessible for people with disabilities.
