Psychology Volunteer Are you studying psychology or a recent psychology graduate with a passion for supporting young people? Join Solidarity Academy as a volunteer and help create safe, welcoming spaces where young people can feel heard, valued, and supported. You'll assist with local community youth projects on the Irish Midlands area, deliver gentle wellbeing activities, and support our HERE4U Listening Service by offering a compassionate, non-judgemental listening ear to students and young people. This is a fantastic opportunity to gain meaningful experience in youth work, mental wellbeing, and community engagement while making a positive difference in the lives of others. Full training, guidance, and ongoing support will be provided.
Accommodation, food and transport arrangements
Volunteer should be from the local area (Athlone / Mullingar / Tullamore) so that access to the project is within our combined reach. Supports for transport / access will be in place, A food allowance and pocket money will be provided weekly Inclusion support will aim to address any barriers for engagement, access or develpment. A bicycle and carpooling will also be on offer.
Training during the activity
During the 9-month project, the volunteer will access a range of formal and informal learning opportunities. These include Child Safeguarding training, QQI Level 5 modules in Youth Work (where appropriate), National Agency On-Arrival Training, and regular in-house CPD delivered by the youth work team. Ongoing mentoring, reflective practice using Youthpass, team meetings, shadowing experienced youth workers, and participation in project planning and evaluation will further support their personal and professional development.
Participant profile
We are looking for a motivated young person with a genuine interest in youth work, community development and supporting the wellbeing of young people. The ideal volunteer will be open-minded, empathetic and eager to learn, with an interest in areas such as mental health, psychology, counselling, education or social care. They should enjoy working as part of a team, be creative, approachable and willing to engage with young people from diverse backgrounds. A positive attitude, good communication skills, flexibility and a willingness to contribute to both planned activities and everyday youth work are essential. No previous experience in youth work is required. We value enthusiasm, reliability and a desire to develop personally and professionally through the European Solidarity Corps experience. The volunteer should be willing to reflect on their learning through Youthpass, participate in training opportunities and actively contribute to creating a safe, inclusive and welcoming environment for all young people.
