The power of together

Be the friend 30 kids look forward to at Pinocchio Day Center!

ASOCIATIA LUMEA LUI PINOCCHIO

PANCIU, Romania

Description

Lumea lui Pinocchio Association has been active in Panciu, Vrancea County, since 2001, promoting the social inclusion of disadvantaged children, especially from the Roma community.

At the Pinocchio Day Center you will work with children aged 3 to 16 and their families. You will lead handicraft activities using recycled materials, organise sports and outdoor games, facilitate cinema, theatre and music sessions, plan special events (Christmas, Easter, Children's Day, birthday parties) and run cooking and hygiene workshops.

You will also help us tell our story: create photos, videos and posts for our social media and website, and support communication campaigns.

You will be part of an intercultural team, with tasks based on your interests and skills. We are open to your ideas!

Accommodation, food and transport arrangements

Volunteers share an apartment with other international volunteers, two people per room, and take care of house cleaning and cooking together. The association provides money for groceries and €4 pocket money per day of service. Travel costs to and from Panciu are covered according to the European Commission's distance calculator. Focșani, the county capital, is just 30 km away.

Training during the activity

Volunteers receive an induction at the start of the service to get to know the team, the children and the local community. They take part in the on-arrival training and, for longer stays, the mid-term evaluation organised by the National Agency. An online Romanian language course is offered, and an ESC mentor supports each volunteer throughout the service. Learning is reflected through regular meetings and recognised with a Youthpass certificate at the end.

Participant profile

We are looking for young people with basic English and strong motivation to volunteer with disadvantaged children. Patience, openness, creativity and a wish to work in an intercultural team are important. Previous experience in volunteering or education, especially with disadvantaged children, is welcome. We especially appreciate skills in crafts, sport and other artistic activities (music, theatre, painting). We are also looking for volunteers interested in social media, communication or graphic design, to help us create content and share our work. Young people with fewer opportunities are encouraged to apply.
