Meeting the world. The life in an asylum seekers Center.

Περιγραφή

The asylum-seekers Center “Belle-Vue” is managed by the Belgian Red Cross. It is located in Eupen, in the German speaking community of Belgium. The Belle-Vue Institut accommodates 105 inhabitants (Families, non-accompanied minors, women, men) of different cultures, nationalities and religions, asking for asylum. The Red Cross tasks consist in the administration of the house as well as welcoming and supporting the refugees during their asylum procedure. The volunteer will take care of the basic work (serving meals, distribution of bed sheets and sanitary articles, working on the reception desk, medical transports…). The volunteer will also participate in the organization of the different activities offered in our center, such as sport, culture, art and music activities as well as cooking, language lessons (French or German) or manual work, according to his/her ability and interests. Moreover the volunteer can use all his/her creativity to develop and realize new projects.

Διαμονή, διατροφή και έξοδα μετακίνησης

Food: The volunteer will receive a food allowance monthly. There is a kitchenette in the volunteer’s house where he/she can prepare the food. The volunteer can eat in the Center's canteen during the working day. Accommodation: A studio in the center of Eupen will be rented by the hosting organization (it consists in one sleeping room with kitchenette and a private bathroom, in the owner's house), 15 minutes by walking from the Asylum seekers Center. Transport arrangements: the volunteer will have a bicycle and a rail pass for travelling in Belgium by train.

Κατάρτιση κατά τη δραστηριότητα

The volunteer will participate to an on-arrival meeting and to a mid-term meeting organized by the national agency. The volunteer will participate to a two-days team seminar. Red-Cross trainings are offered as well. Language lessons (French or German). Team meetings take place weekly. The purpose of the meetings is to discuss difficulties and to promote the collaboration within the team. The volunteer will have a mentor who can help him/her for any issues. Προφίλ συμμετέχοντος

The volunteer should be an open-minded person, ready to get in touch with different cultures and beliefs. He/she has to assist people without any kind of discrimination. The volunteer should have a particular interest in the problems of asylum and migration.Red-Cross volunteers have to respect the 7 fundamental principles of the Red Cross. As the volunteer has the opportunity to develop and realize his/her own project he/she has to be an active, enthusiastic and motivated person, The volunteer will work with a large multicultural team, so he/she should be open for teamwork.
