The Special Primary School no.17 in Bialystok, is a public educational special school for mentally handicapped at different levels: mild, moderate, severe and profound. The school is located in Bialystok, at number 12 Rzemieślnicza Street . The school receives children who are qualified to special education and possesses a certificate of retardation and permission from the city council of Bialystok. There are around 80 handicapped children in the school at the moment aged 7 -25. Some of the students (with profound level of mental disability) follow the individual curriculum at home. The aim of the school is to prepare these mentally handicapped children to live and integrate with society and make the ability to be self-efficient.
Our school is involved in many interesting projects, such as: sport projects (footboll, athletics, …), cultural projects (theatre, painting, ceramics, …).
Primary School No. 17 is the oldest institution for intellectually disabled children
in Bialystok. The founder and the first teacher was Władysław Starzecki.
CLASSES ARE CONDUCTED AS PART OF THE EARLY CHILD'S DEVELOPMENT SUPPORT
The school employs 52 educators, specialists in the field of oligophrenopedagogy, and 2 surdopedagogues
and two psychologists.
In our work, we follow the principle of individualisation, which is why a team of educators - specialists develops an educational program tailored to the needs of each child. We provide all the conditions for optimal development, a sense of security and comfort. We arouse the interests of our pupils through various activities:
• extra-curricular activities
• active sports
• going to the cinema, theater, museum
• sightseeing tours

  • This organisation holds a European Solidarity Corps Quality Label. The Quality Label certifies that the organisation is able to run projects in compliance with the principles and objectives of the European Solidarity Corps.
