Herøya Misjonskirke (Mission Church) is a local church with activities for all generations. Our goal is to create many different, positive activities for all generations in our local area called Herøya in Porsgrunn. We have a good relationship with the city's schools, sport club and all other organisations in the area. Our aims are to give people in our local society a good place to meet, to serve and to belong to a fellowship. Herøya Misjonskirke is also a partner of the volunteer centre called Herøya Nærmiljøsenter (Herøya Community Centre). The Community Centre is a meeting place for people of all walks of life, an arena for dialogue, coordination and cooperation between people and organisations in the community. It provides opportunities to participate in volunteer work - a tool to create new networks, associations and organisations to supplement the voluntary sector locally.
Since its new investment and revitalization of its work in 2007, Herøya Misjonskirke has had great success with child and youth work, work with the elderly, refugees, food distribution to the needy and has a commitment to urban development. The main focus has been children and young people, and every week we gather between 150-300 children and young people for various activities. The church is still small in terms of the number of members, but has relationships and influence on an enormous number of people in Herøya and in Porsgrunn city through its activities and work.
