Опис на организацијата

The Wildtier- und Artenschutzstation (WASS, Wildlife Rescue and Conservation Centre) is a German rescue centre for native and exotic wild animals in Sachsenhagen, Germany. WASS cares for injured and orphaned native wild animals like birds, hedgehogs, martens and squirrels. The aim is to release these animals back into nature after recovery. WASS also hosts a wide range of exotic animals such as parrots, snakes, iguanas, turtles and primates that are confiscated from illegal trade or from private people. The centre is involved in several European wildlife conservation programmes, e.g. for the European mink and it cooperates with zoos and rescue centres all over Europe. EVS volunteers will have the opportunity to work closely with wildlife and to learn how a wildlife rescue centre works. The volunteers will:
- help to care for the animals
- be responsible for cleaning the animals’ enclosures
- arrange species-appropriate facilities
- make enrichment items for the animals to stimulate natural behaviour
- help to prepare food and feed the animals
- be involved in education and public relation by creation of information material, guidance of visitors and preparation of activities at the centre
WASS is situated on a 20 ha area surrounded by woods and fields. It is 4 km away from Sachsenhagen, a small rural city. Hanover, the next large city is about 45 km away. EVS volunteers will work in a young team and will live together with other volunteers directly in the centre.
