“Villaggio SOS di Saronno” is member of KINDERDORF INTERNATIONAL, the largest private worldwide organization taking care of children. The headquarter is in Innsbruck, Austria. Kinderdorf International exists in more than 134 countries of the world with about 1500 institutions; it collaborates also with UNESCO. In 2002 the institution has won the HILTON HUMANITARIA PRICE, the most important international price regarding humanitarian field.“Villaggio SOS di Saronno” is led by the “Cooperativa Sociale Villaggio SOS di Saronno”, founded in 1986. The main objective of “Villaggio SOS di Saronno” is to temporally host children with personal, family and social disadvantages, mainly those whose families are not able to carry out their own tasks. The organization aims at guaranteeing to each child the integration in a family situation to ensure a proper psycho-physic growth, seen the foretold return in the own family or in a new one. In any case, the children are hosted until the reaching of an adequate self-sufficiency to manage their own life and to get integrated into society.
“Villaggio SOS di Saronno” appreciates and respects the work developed by people and organizations dedicated to the regional network of social services and the care of children and young people. The Villaggio collaborates and works together with this network contributing to the improvement of the conditions and quality of life of disadvantaged under aged and, in a more generally, fights for the welfare and care of all children.
Thus Villaggio SOS di Saronno:
promotes the development and implementation of new projects regarding the emergent needs of children and families in collaboration with public and private social organizations
promotes and highlights voluntary work
participates actively in the regional social network and the activities and discussions promoted.
There are 5 services provided by Villaggio :
a. Le Case SOS (SOS-houses)
In the village there are 3 houses and each can host a SOS family up to 6 children/young adults aged between 5 and 15 years. Each house is on one floor where there are common areas and personal spaces in which to grow , share, and experience the daily life of a family. Each “Family SOS” lives in a house (the “SOS-house”) with its own entrance in order to sustain its autonomy. Each SOS-house has one only floor and no architectonic barriers.
Currently there are 2 different “houses” in Villaggio which are hosting 4 to 6 children/youngsters between 5 and 15 years old.
b. The Day time Centres “Bottega di Geppetto” and "Botteghina": they are daily centers which aim at supporting the children and teenagers of the region (Saronno and peripheral towns). There, children and teenagers of the primary (Botteghina) and the secondary (Bottega di Geppetto) schools can spend part of the day, receiving educational support. They come from families which are facing different kind of problems and cannot take care of them. They can both host around 20 children/youngsters (aged between 6 and 14 years) and are located in 2 different houses of Villaggio SOS di Saronno. .
c. “Casa dei Giovani” (Youths' house)
It is a residential service dedicated to young people, aged between 15 and 21 years who are facing family, social or personal difficulties. Since they live outside of their family environment , they have the opportunity to re-elaborate the experiences related to their past and present and develop social and relational skills. The House of the young is located outside the SOS Children's Village and can host up to 9 young people. The house is provided of common areas as well as private ones so that everybody can grow up, having the chance to live together, as a family, but at the same time, develop its own individuality and autonomy.
d. La Casa per l’Autonomia (house for the Autonomy)
The service is dedicated to older youths who are completing the process of growth and community coming from the family of the SOS Children's Village or the youth house. The service aims at supporting their journey towards autonomy. In this context , youngster are in the research and maintenance of the workplace as well as the following search and selection of a home.
e. Casa delle ragazze (young girls' house): it is a residential service for girls aged between 15 and 21.
