Society Initiatives Institute is non-governmental, non-political, non-profitable organisation. Since 2013 Society Initiatives Institute is implementing various social and educational projects to contribute to building democratic and inclusive society, where every person can receive equal opportunities for development and self-realization. We focus our work in following spheres: youth empowerment, community building and promoting human rights.

Target group(s) of your organisation: young people in the age 18-30 years old both from urban and rural areas. We also have projects focused on development of local communities, so in this case our target group expands.

During the time organisation is existing we gained sufficient practical experience in working with youth and local communities, mentoring, project management, organising different kind of events on local, national and international levels. Some of the projects we implemented in 2016-2017 are following:

School of changes – long-term educational project, the main focus of which is to develop leadership competences, creativity and entrepreneurship mindset among 12-18 years old students. For last semester we have 5 schools participating with 120 students engaged. We held 65 educational sessions for them, using non- formal educational methods.

We have experience in organising large-scale events, such as educational simulation games for young people, in which meetings and work of international organisations and institutions (Model UN, NATO, Council of Europe, European Parliament) are simulated. In 2016 we held 4 models (international and local) with 540 participants, in 2017 we already held 3 models (international and local) with 300 participants.

In 2017 together with our partners from Armenia and Moldova we implemented project “Everybody Counts: Rural Youth Empowerment in Eastern Partnership Countries”, which aimed to encourage youth in rural areas to become more self-confident, active in the community as well as to support development of youth participation structures in rural areas through grass-root work and dialogue with official stakeholders responsible for youth.

Also in 2017 we implemented Ukrainian-American Civic Leadership Academy with the purpose to develop within Ukrainian youth strong competences required in order to enhance the civil society in Ukraine based on American experience. For this purpose four American experts with experience in the civic field were invited from partner organizations to elaborate on specifics of American path towards socially responsible community, activism and cultural diplomacy .

During the implementation of our educational projects we accumulated sufficient knowledge and experience in using creative tools, such as Storytelling, Improv Theatre, Sensory Labyrinth Theatre, usage of photography and video to address various social issues. We also promoting Improv Theatre by organising Improv Festivals in Lviv. Just in 2016 we organised 2 festivals, which attended around 600 people.
We are promoting the street art by supporting such projects as graffiti festival “Alarm” and Festival of murals “Lviv WallKing” (both in 2017).
