Als internationale Einrichtung wurde die EJBW im Jahr 1999 als Bildungs- und Begegnungsstätte für Kinder, Jugendliche und junge Menschen sowie für Fachkräfte der Bildungsarbeit aus Europa und der ganzen Welt eröffnet.

Die EJBW
• ist eine Institution non-formaler, außerschulischer politischer Jugendbildung am Lernort Weimar. Eine Bildungsstätte, in der Jugendliche gemeinsam leben, sich begegnen, sich austauschen und lernen.
• bietet Jugendlichen einen einzigartigen Erfahrungs- und Lernraum.
• begleitet Jugendliche bei ihrer Entwicklung zu selbstbewussten, aufgeschlossenen, solidarischen, verantwortungsbewussten und engagierten Persönlichkeiten.
• ermutigt Jugendliche, unsere Gesellschaftsordnung kennen zu lernen, kritisch zu hinterfragen und im Sinne einer freiheitlichen, demokratischen, sozialen und gerechten Ordnung zu gestalten.
• fördert Engagement: Ohne Wissen ist Handeln ziellos, ohne Handeln Wissen wirkungslos. Die EJBW betreibt nicht nur Wissen- und Kompetenzvermittlung, sie motiviert und befähigt auch zum Handeln.
• ermuntert Jugendliche, ihren Horizont zu erweitern, neues auszuprobieren und eine Vision für sich und die Gemeinschaft zu entwickeln.

Die EJBW
• ist dem Leitmotiv der Demokratiestärkung verpflichtet. In ihrer pädagogischen Arbeit folgt sie der Leitfrage: „Was stärkt und was gefährdet die Demokratie?“. Die Demokratie ist dabei nicht nur eine Staats-, sondern vor allem eine Lebensform.
• achtet jeden einzelnen jungen Menschen als freie und selbstbestimmte Persönlichkeit, deren Integrität es zu schützen und deren Bedürfnisse und Interessen es zu berücksichtigen gilt.
• vertritt als Grundlage ihrer Bildungsarbeit ein humanistisches Menschenbild, die Anerkennung und Wertschätzung jedes Einzelnen, die freie Entfaltung der Persönlichkeit, die Gleichwertigkeit aller und die Achtung von Vielfalt.
• schafft Raum für einen offenen demokratischen Dialog und freien kontroversen Meinungsaustausch.
• befördert Empathie und Solidarität und regt an zur Übernahme von Verantwortung und zum Engagement für eine freiheitliche, demokratische, soziale und gerechte Gesellschaftsordnung.

Jährlich führt die EJBW durchschnittlich 140 Veranstaltungen mit insgesamt ca. 430 Veranstaltungstagen durch. Das pädagogische Angebot richtet sich an Jugendliche und Erwachsene und befasst sich mit zentralen bildungs- und gesellschaftspolitischen Themen. Die EJBW gehört damit zu den größten und bedeutendsten Jugendbildungsstätten in Deutschland und ist in zahlreichen nationalen und internationalen Gremien und Netzwerken vertreten. Die EJBW bietet attraktive Übernachtungs- und Tagungsmöglichkeiten mitten in Weimar. Fünf Gartenhäuser im Grünen stehen Gruppen und Initiativen als Übernachtungsstätte zur Verfügung. Moderne Seminarräume bieten neben alten Stadtvillen das ideale Umfeld für Veranstaltungen aller Art. Die EJBW ist Mitglied im Arbeitskreis deutscher Bildungsstätten (AdB).

As an international institution, the EJBW was opened in 1999 as an educational and meeting place for children and young people as well as for professionals in educational work from Europe and around the world.

The EJBW
• is an institution of non-formal civic youth education at the “learning venue” Weimar. An educational institution where young people live together, meet, exchange and learn.
• offers young people a unique space for experience and learning.
• supports young people in their development into self-confident, open-minded, solidary, responsible and committed personalities.
• encourages young people to get to know our social system, to question it critically and to shape it in terms of a free, democratic, social and just system.
• promotes commitment: without knowledge, action is aimless; without action, knowledge is ineffective. The EJBW not only imparts knowledge and skills, it also motivates and enables people to act.
• encourages young people to broaden their horizons, try out new things and develop a vision for themselves and the community.

The EJBW
• is committed to the “leitmotif” of strengthening democracy. In it´s educational work the EJBW follows the guiding question: "What strengthens and what endangers democracy? Democracy is not only a form of state, but above all a way of life.
• respects every single young person as a free and self-determined personality whose integrity must be protected and whose needs and interests must be taken into account.
• represents as the basis of its educational work a humanistic view of humanity, the recognition and appreciation of each individual, the free development of the personality, the equality of all and respect for diversity.
• creates space for an open democratic dialogue and free controversial exchange of opinions.
• promotes empathy and solidarity and encourages the assumption of responsibility and commitment to a free, democratic, social and just social system.

Each year the EJBW organises an average of 140 events with a total of about 430 days of events. The educational programme is aimed at young people and adults and deals with core educational and socio-political topics. The EJBW is thus one of the largest and most important youth education institutions in Germany and is represented in numerous national and international committees and networks. The EJBW offers attractive accommodation and conference facilities in the middle of Weimar. Five garden houses are available for groups and initiatives as overnight accommodation. Modern seminar rooms and old town villas offer the ideal environment for all kinds of events. The EJBW is a member of the „Arbeitskreis deutscher Bildungsstätten (AdB)“.
