Theater GegenStand e.V. is a theatre company situated in Marburg, performing up to 110 shows a year. With its productions of full-length plays and performances, literary readings, and work-shops, the large heterogenous ensemble has been covering a considerable part of the programme offered at the post-industrial venue Waggonhalle since 1995. Theater GegenStand also regularly performs at Marburg venues, throughout the region and in public places in town. Amateurs and professionals work together on many productions, thus establishing a lively exchange among each other and with the audience. There is an paid office staff of two, all other administrative tasks are executed uncompensated by the management. Over the years Theater GegenStand has developed several focus points while always remaining open to new ideas and inspirations. Staged readings – frequently of proprietory texts – and idiosyncratic stage versions of classical and contemporary drama, as well as adaptations of prose texts and plays developed during rehearsals from improvisations make up the core range of the repertoire. Theatre for children, performances and open air productions around town have grown to be other major focus points of Theater GegenStand‘s repertoire.
encouraging an intercultural atmosphere for work and social life is our aim. Learning is meant as a process, all participants learn from each other, volunteers and theatre members alike, in creating projects and supporting the general work.
