The Association of Maribor students represents, combines, provides benefits for young people at a local level, in order to diversify their daily lives and provide a better quality of leisure time. The association was founded in 1996 and since then offers diverse events and opportunities for informal education, as well as offering support to young athletes, emerging bands and young artists. So called Aktivisti are students, young people working in KMŠ, with regular help from alumnus. In 2015 a new management board took over and quality of work started rising even more. Pisarna coworking & coffe is a concept, which combines two key elements: A classical coworking space in the center of the city which is available to anyone who needs space to work or study. Pisarna is equipped like a modern office, providing users with high quality wi-fi, printing utensils and with a typical office vibe and experience. It is meant to be for students and businessmen, who have time between appointments, in need of great working space or are just in need of changing their work environment. The second aspect of Pisarna is its specialty Coffee, mostly imported from Guatemala, Nicaragua and Columbia. Pisarna is meant to be student friendly, so the prices are arranged accordingly. Office hours of Pisarna: Mon. to Thurs: 8 am to 6 pm; Frid.: 8 am to 3 pm and 7 pm to 11 pm; during weekends we are closed. Apart from previously stated activities, Pisarna also acts as a venue; supporting local cultural and educational activities, shows and lectures. In Pisarna we regularly organize non-formal educ. events which inform and prepare students for job market (CV, Resume, Linkedin...) and after-student life. KMŠ Tech - interesting information about thee latest technology. Social events, helping people in need, visiting shelters. Each year we organize one of the biggest concerts called Ftragtev with famous bands and musicians with 1000 visitors + sport arena. All the money goes to a child with special needs that we chose in advance. Cultural events, Friday concerts in Pisarna with young, rising musicians, Stand up night events; Open mic nights. Izodraz, art competition for young, unknown artists: sculptors, painters and poets. All the works are exhibited for few weeks, peoples votes, and special commission proclaim the winners. KMŠ Oder (KMŠ Stage), part of Maribor biggest festival Lent - young musicians, also international (Erasmus+) perform. International work, we have regular events about travelling and promotion of companies which provide exchanges outside Europe. Erasmus+ students also join the events in Pisarna. Solidarity events: “Siti lakote” KMŠ Activists voluntarily prepare Christmas dinner for homeless people; we collect school supplies for Children in need and offer free tutoring for High school students. International relations team has previously attended Erasmus+ youth exchanges and we regularly organize events about, travelling and mobility options for young people. We have done a questionnaire among Activists and came to results that many people in Maribor are still intolerant and have prejudice towards other cultures and people, specially towards immigrants even though we have a lot of tourists and Erasmus+ students in Maribor. There are alot of passive and appatic young people, even though Maribor is second largest City in Slovenia there are not many employment options. Young people do not have a clear picture what it means to be part of the European Union, which are European values and about European identity. We strive towards connecting students, young people through organisation of different events, we wish that people would feel that they belong to our organisation, local envir. and Europe. Values: Knowledge and experiences - gaining new, practical knowledge, learning about different cultures, European politics and economy. In the organisation we wish that each member has an option of gaining new knowledge in field of their interest, freely choosing in which projects they wish to participate; developing their own ideas while having support of the organisation. Same values stand for ESC volunteers. Extra value of our organisation is knowledge transfer from theory to practice and gaining experience from different fields of interest, because we are aware that non-formal knowledge and competences are main factor for young people when transiting to job market. Solidarity, our organization has a lot of members, that is why one of main values is solidarity among members. We are aware of importance of each individual and respect of individual opinion. We support, motivate and encourage each other while working on projects and striving to reaching our goals and progress. Nonetheless success of organization depends on whole team not just one individual. Same value stands for ESC volunteers, we believe they can influence young people to become more tolerant and open minded, while eventually becoming more active and solidary.
