Point Europa is a not for profit organisation operating from South East Cornwall, since 2004. We specialize in youth support, adult education, vocational and non-vocational training, support and guidance and community work. We have 5 permanent members of staff, 126 members of the charity and a strong committed cohort of volunteers of all ages from our local community and surrounding area. We have local and regional partnerships with statutory bodies, other NGO's and social enterprises.

Our objectives are to:

Provide lifelong learning opportunities, vocational and non vocational training and Youth activity for our local community members.
Providing work related skills to improve employability for individuals and social enterprises
Promote intercultural communication and International cooperation though exchange and mobility within and for our local community members.
To strengthen sustainable development, and to promote education in this field for community members.
Promote active citizenship.

Our work as a community support charity is all about promoting citizenship, by community members of all ages and all situations. We try to encourage active involvement in the community, and we include our EVS volunteers in this. A strong strand in our work is aimed at young people; they are the age group that suffers most from the disadvantages of rural isolation, lack of employment and poor access to opportunities. We ask our EVS volunteers to work directly alongside young people, helping them to get involved in community activities. By channeling the energy and interest of our EVS volunteers, we can promote active citizenship in both groups - the incoming volunteers themselves, and the youth that they interact with.



Our efforts to promote European citizenship are based around the development of shared understanding and tolerance of difference. We work in a small, isolated area of often limited contact to the wider European context; our EVS project helps to directly bring young people into contact with their peers from other countries, through the EVS activities and also through promotion of other opportunities such as Youth Initiatives and Youth Exchanges. We have successfully involved the local young people in a huge range of EU-level projects and activities over the years, and this work will continue.
