Tools for Self Reliance is a UK based charity, established 34 years ago. Our mission is to contribute to poverty reduction in Africa by working with partner organisations and our supporters in the UK to empower people in Africa to build viable and sustainable livelihoods through the delivery of technical. business and life skills training to the participants in country.From our headquarters in Southampton, we collect and refurbish used tools and sewing machines, reclaim timber for packing cases and aim to send 5-6 shipments a year to our projects in Africa. The refurbished tools form part of a project and we provide the funds to enable the partner organisations to deliver the training to the participants, in country. We raise funds for the projects by a variety of methods and fundraising. These fundraising initiatives involve staff and volunteers alike all across the UK. We have 55 refurbishing groups as far afield as Aberdeen to Jersey. These groups will be involved with Tools for Self Reliance in many ways including tool and sewing machine collecting and refurbishing, giving talks about Tools for Self Reliance, attending local events to publicise us and raise funds for the organisation.
