The Cultural Center of Macomer was founded in 1969 and is based in the province of Nuoro (Sardinia – Italy). It operates within U.N.L.A.’s institutional activities. U.N.L.A. was founded in Rome on December 5th, 1947 and it has been recognized as a legal institution. It promotes lifelong learning and training, the development of an individual's personality and young people’s active participation in cultural and social life.U.N.L.A.’s cultural objectives are:a) to work with the libraries of the territory on reading and moving image education;b) to work with schools to carry out cultural activities, promoting autonomous initiatives (U.N.L.A. provides its own organization and equipment);c) to organize cycles of cultural events, meetings, workshops, presentations of new books, movies, plays, concerts, etc..;d) to cooperate with organizations and associations as well as cultural and professional local groups in the formulation and implementation of their programs, while also providing documentation and helping to train volunteer group leaders;e) to support activities aimed at strengthening social services, to promote technical and professional development as well as territorial mobility.During the annual planning, the Cultural Center focuses its attention on training professional librarians; professionals of reading and moving image education.The Cultural Center also provides a help desk and information point:a) Library - Audiovisual library - video library – service. It provides a good availability of information materials and documentaries (digital and paper formats) and it has also various multimedia workstations with Internet access.It also supplies audio visual equipment for free loan as well as technical assistance for its use. b) Support and assistance service. The service consists of giving a constant support to schools, associations and public entities for the planning and realization of their cultural activities: seminars and workshops aimed at preventing the phenomenon of early school leaving and promoting social meetings through the organization of specific cultural and free time activities.The Cultural Centre also manages the project called “Young People Planet” aimed at young people between the ages of 14 and 29. It promotes culture, training and education, knowledge, identity, active citizenship, personal growth and socialization. Its activities reflect the needs and the requests received from the territory. The goal is to offer an open meeting place where young people can regularly meet and exchange ideas with each other, learn new skills, explore and experience new ways of being together. The “Young Planet” includes a multipurpose room, a music rehearsal space, a video editing room and an internet point with 10 PCs and wireless connection throughout the building.Over the last two years the Cultural Centre has devised and realized the following projects in the areas of youth policies:Courses and workshops: workshop for the production of a short film (including each step: writing, shooting and editing) with boys and girls of Santu Lussurgiu - Oristano; workshop for the production of a short film (including each step: writing, shooting and editing) with the collaboration of the students from the Scientific High School "Galileo Galilei" in Macomer – Nuoro; theatre workshop; workshop of analog photography and digital post production; basic course of shooting digital video; guitar workshop; sound engineer Course; drums workshop; careers Advice in collaboration with the Higher Institutes of Macomer; etc.Festival: International Comics Festival; Festival dedicated to the Danish writer Hans Christian Andersen; Festival dedicated to Emilio Salgari (2011) and Jules Verne (2013); Legality Festival; etc.
