Auschwitz Jewish Center is the only trace of a Jewish presence in the city of Oświęcim, whose name was changed to Auschwitz during the war. It is a non-governmental organization which exists to serve as a guardian of Jewish memory, as well as to educate the public about the Holocaust. The aim of our foundation is to cultivate the memory of the Jewish inhabitants of Oświęcim and to educate with particular emphasis on the issues of the Holocaust and contemporary threats related to intolerance and prejudice. The Center includes the Museum, the only surviving synagogue, the Educational Center and the Klugers House, which after renovation has been converted into a cafe (Cafe Bergson), which conducts broadly understood cultural activity in a modern form. The Center pays a lot of attention to the educational mission. It offers a wide range of educational programs, including workshops, lectures and cultural events, aimed at the local community and visitors from Poland and around the world. When working with young people and adults, special emphasis is placed on breaking the image of Oświęcim and sensitizing them to the issues of intergroup relations. Our organization operates on several levels: local, national and international. Every year we host approximately 30,000 visitors from all over the world and those who take part in our special workshops, educational programs and cultural events. The Auschwitz Jewish Center is affiliated with the Museum of Jewish Heritage in New York, USA.
