Church Asylum Berlin is part of the German Ecumenical Committee on Church Asylum (Ökumenische Bundesarbeitsgemeinschaft Asyl in der Kirche) which forms a network of associations of German protestant, catholic and free church parishes ready to offer church asylum. Parishes offering asylum to refugees feel bound by their Christian faith to protect people from deportation from the territory, if there is reasonable doubt concerning a safe return. These parishes place themselves between refugees and the authorities in order to bring about a re-examination of cases and to prevent deportation.Church Asylum Berlin aims at supporting refugees, alerting to their living conditions, representing their interests publicly and establishing understanding in the local community. Church Asylum Berlin acts from Christian responsibility and works within an ecumenical network. The association offers counseling for refugees und shelters single refugees in adversity though placement and accompanying. Public events and publications inform about the situation of refugees. Working as political lobbyists, we take a stand for the rights of refugees. The target group of our work are refugees, asylum seekers and people without documents.
