St. Stanislav's Institution is an educational institution with rich tradition. It is comprised of 6 pedagogical units: the Good Shepherd Kindergarten, the Alojzij Šuštar Primary School, the Diocesan Classical Gymnasium, the Jeglič Student Home, the J. F. Gnidovec Student Home, and the Music School of St. Stanislav’s Institution. In addition to the pedagogical units, several non-pedagocial units also exist within St. Stanislav's (among wich one is also the Institute for Education Research and Development).St. Stanisav’s Institution employs more than 200 people; two thirds of them are teachers. Our basic educational units represent a vertical ranging from kindergarten to high school. The music school and both student homes enrich our offer and enable the young to develop their talents outside the school walls. St. Stanislav’s Institution is a private institution. However, all programmes are officially recognised and accredited by the state or appropriate ministry. The mission of St. Stanislav’s Institution is to foster the holistic personal growth of each individual in the community, guided by faith, hope and love and in dialogue with the world, with the goal of living fully for the betterment of the world. Consequently, we have prepared various activities for the promotion of the holistic personal growth of our students. Each unit within St. Stanislav’s has its special priority area and goals developed according the age group of its students. In the following, we are going to present the units which will be actively involved in the EVS projects. The Good Shepard Kindergarten started to work in the school year 2014/15. It offers a wide variety of activities helping children develop their various talents and become familiar with arts, music etc. The next couple of years will be crucial for paving the future way and setting the goals of this unit. We try to be as practical as possible and offer our children first-hand experience; therefore, we invite people to come and speak about their profession, their minority, their way of living, etc.In the last years, the Alojzij Šuštar Primary School placed great emphasis above all on the concepts of experiential learning and outdoor education. We decided to encourage our children not to spend so much time in front of TV and other devices and rather spend more time outdoors. We want for them to be actively involved in their learning process and get useful and long-lasting knowledge. In addition, we want to offer a wide selection of extracurricular activities to further develop their talents because of the awareness that formal education does not suffice. A majority of our extracurricular activities are organised by our primary school teachers. Our school also puts a lot of effort in strengthening the European idea and international cooperation with which we want to broaden our students’ horizons. The Diocesan Classical Gymnasium is classical in the broader sense of the word. In addition to Latin as a compulsory subject and Greek as an elective, a great emphasis is also placed on natural sciences. In the last couple of years, we have been working on the redevelopment of our curriculum to be able to offer our students more possibilities to chose what they want. We try to improve our natural science classes to be more practical and enable students to be actively involved in the learning process (also in cooperation with the Alojzij Šuštar Primary School and experiential learning). In addition, we are also working on a new format of foreign language classes to be more in tune with the circumstances and the needs of today’s globalised world. Moreover, foreign language classes are conducted in smaller groups enabling greater participation of students and more intensive work. At the moment, we are putting most of our efforts in introducing new methodology to our English classes and IT methods to all foreign language classes, however with critical consideration. St. Stanislav’s Institution strives for genuine openness and (as written in our mission statement) dialogue with the world. Therefore, we believe it is important to cooperate with local, national and international partners. We have been participating in various Erasmus+ projects and now would like to become involved in the EVS’ programmes. These programmes will be beneficial both for young European volunteers who will get new teaching and other experience in a very positive and functioning environment under the guidance of experienced mentors and for St. Stanislav’s Institution and its students who will get opportunities for getting to know their peers or older students from other European countries.
