Theatre - Studio “Studentina” is an NGO that unites an artistic community and successfully works with young people in the field of stage arts since its founding in 1958. The studio maintains a center for stage arts at the National Student House in the city of Sofia and an environmentally-friendly art space in a small village an hour away from Sofia. “Studentina” maintains both urban and non- urban art centers. The studios and rehearsal spaces in the city of Sofia are situated in its very center, at the National Student House. That is where all the classes are held, as well as some performances, since there are two old theatre halls in the building, which are now being brought back to life. The other place is located in the village of Balin, 40 kilometers away from Sofia. It has been called "Bulgarayya"- Center for Art and Ecology and its aim is to create conditions for creativity in the genuine home of Nature. Houses, built with natural materials with the help of volunteers from previous projects where, surrounded by peace and quiet, one could develop their potential, find inspiration for their art and way of living and learn about the environment and its protection. The region is barely populated and is a great place for environmentally-orientated people to manifest their ideas for an ecological way of living and sustainable development. Since the beginning of 2020 the organization has started developing a music studio, again situated at the building of National Student House, where young people interested in music will have an opportunity to gather for rehearsals, jam sessions or make recordings, meet professional musicians and exchange ideas and experience with them. Along with the organization has been created the contemporary dance company “Bright Bites”. It is orientated mostly towards different tendencies in contemporary dance, contemporary circus, dance theatre and contact improvisation, “release” techniques, “Body Mind Centering” and other methods of contemporary dance. The people who take care of the studios are mainly young volunteers - professional dancers, artists, musicians, etc, as well as non-professionals - students from different Universities around the country and art lovers. The main idea of our project is: to develop an art center in nature and get creative, while preserving it ; to connect the two art spaces - the urban and non-urban one. “Studentina” reaches out for people who: are interested in art and working with artists; are interested in ecology, sustainable development and nature preservation; are happy to get their hands dirty and work with natural building materials, participate in cleaning activities and work with nature in a non-harmful way; would love to work in a team and bring positive changes to society. "Studentina" hosts artists, mostly in the field of dance, music, theatre, contemporary circus and different physical research projects. The studio in the center of Sofia is our training and rehearsal home, it is also our art stage and space to work on different projects. It is a place where our spirit passes by when we are in the city.
