City Public Library in Rumia is a self-governmental institution of culture, consisting of "Culture Station " ("Stacja Kultura") and three branches of the library. The main objective of the Library is meeting and developing the reading, learning, educational, informational and cultural needs of the inhabitants of Rumia.
Our mission is to preserve the national heritage with particular emphasis on achievements of Rumia and the pomeranian region. The library implements interdisciplinary activities connected with literature, music, visual arts and multimedia, arising from the needs of the local community. Our cultural offer is directed to all social and age groups. Users of our libraries are mostly children and young people, families and older people. Culture Station is a building without architectural barriers - is adapted to the needs of persons with physical disabilities.
The volunteer will work mainly in the Culture Station, where the main library is located. This is where most of the cultural and educational events are held. Co-operation with associations and hobby groups broadens the scope of our activities. We systematically organize meetings with writers, travelers and other interesting people. This is the place where jazz concerts within Jazz Station are held, theater performances for adults and children. We organize conferences, workshops (theater, philosophy, photography, dance), library lessons, reading, performance. Culture Station is a library and a modern cultural center. Its unique design and functionality were appreciated by the jury of the international competition Library Interior Design Awards awarding the first prize in the category of single-spaced libraries.
