Sunseed Desert Technology is an educational centre for the transition towards sustainability located in Los Molinos del Río Aguas, a small village within the “Karst en Yeso de Sorbas” Protected Area in the province of Almería. It is led by an international community of volunteers with the support of a board of trustees and a team of external consultants. For 30 years this international and multicultural community has been working in collaboration with other local, national and international organisations to develop both non-formal and informal educational experiences, offering volunteering activities, workshops, seminars, guided tours and university internships.

Our goal is to experiment and disseminate appropriate solutions for low environmental impact living and we do this by living in community, closing our consumption cycles, using renewable energies, producing our own food, protecting the soil from erosion and desertification and making moderate and efficient use of appropriate technological devices, while taking responsibility for ourselves and our relationships with others and the environment.

The people targeted by our activities come from all over the world and the project is open to people of all ages, while most of the volunteers and residents are aged between 20 and 30. They are interested in sustainability and community living, and concerned about the consequences of climate change and the future of the planet. In addition to traditional short and long term activities such as courses, workshops, research and volunteering placements, in recent years we have developed an increasingly relevant presence in social networks as a means of disseminating our values and the results of our experiences.
