Der Bewohner ist der Mittelpunkt unseres Handelns. Wir sehen die Bewohner unseres Hauses als Persönlichkeiten mit eigenem Lebensweg und individuellem sozialem, kulturellem und religiösem Hintergrund. Der durch Verständnis und Respekt geprägte Umgang soll dazu dienen, dass der ältere Mensch ein höchstmögliches Maß an Wohlbefinden, Lebensqualität und Lebenszufriedenheit erfährt. Das Haus befindet sich in zentraler Lage im Stadtteil Mitte in Bremerhaven und schließt sich an die kleine Parkanlage des Waldemar - Becke`- Platz an. Wir können bis zu 59 Bewohner aller Pflegestufen auf fünf Wohnebenen in Einzelzimmern aufnehmen. Im Gerhard van Heukelum Haus finden die Bewohner Geborgenheit, Verständnis und Sicherheit. Qualifizierte und geschulte Mitarbeiter unterstützen die Bewohner ganzheitlich und aktivierend
Körper, Geist und Seele werden gleichermaßen angesprochen.
Individuelle Betreuung und Pflege orientiert an Biografie, Wünschen und Bedürfnissen sind für uns Maßgabe. Die Bewohner werden rund um die Uhr dabei unterstützt, so dass vorhandene Fähigkeiten erhalten werden und verloren gegangene Fähigkeiten wieder gewonnen werden können. Wir bieten zahlreiche Aktivitäten, Beschäftigungs- und Freizeitangebote innerhalb und außerhalb des Hauses an und ermöglichen so eine aktive Teilnahme am Leben. Auch gerade für Demenzkranke haben wir ein spezielles Freizeit- und Beschäftigungsangebot entwickelt, um auch auf die speziellen Bedürfnisse dieser Personengruppe eingehen zu können und sie weitesgehend am gesellschaftlichen Leben teilhaben lassen zu können.

The residents are the center of our actions. We see the residents of our house as individual personalities with an own biografy and individual social, cultural and religious backgrounds. The interaction with our residents is characterised by understanding and respect so that the elderly person can experience the highest level of well-beeing, life qauality and satisfaction in the sense of contentedness.The Gerhard van Heukelum Haus is located very central in the neighbourhood called "Mitte" close to the city centre, right next to a little parc at "Waldemar-Becké-Platz". We can host up to 59 residents of all grades of handicaps. We have five level of living facilities in our house with individual rooms. In the 'Gerhard van Heukelum Haus' the residents can find security, comprehension and safety. Professional and qualified staff members support the residents holistically to activate the body and the soul in equal measures.
Individual care orientated to the biography and the special needs of the residents is very important to us. The residents are supported during 24 hours per day, so that certain abilities can be conservated and lost abilities can be reactivated. We are offering plenty of activities within and outside the Gerhard van Heukelum Haus, for example, singing groups, doing crafts, excursions, gimnastics, shopping etc. This is important for us because only when the residents have the chance and possibillity to be active also outside the institution they can still be integrated in the society. Another very important issue is to keep elderly people in the current socio-cultural and political life not only in the local dimension but also in the European framework through direct contact with young people from different European countries.
