CEIP Alborxí is a public center located in the city of Alzira, in the region of Ribera Alta. It is located in the district of the Alborxí, in the outskirts of the city center, in Avenue Luis Suñer. The center is located in one of the most important areas of the city, near the City Hall, the Municipal Museum, the Tax Office, the Social Education Services, the Official School of Languages, the Gran Theater, etc. Also the proximity to the urban center facilitates access to the students and of the teachers, and moreover, to the Municipal Library and to the House of Culture, this is the reason we participate in so many of activities.
Currently, the school has an enrollment of 223 boys and girls. Due to its location, our center is enroled with students from the area and also from other more distant neighborhoods; possibly for being a leading center in defense of our language and culture. In addition, in the last decade it has gained a good reputation as an innovative center with lines of work that have endowed it with a strong personality, such as the promotion of reading, the commitment to multilingualism, the social dimension in the area of Art Education with music and the choir as an element that unites families with school. Moreover the promotion of healthy eating and physical education, as well as student and staff participation in the cultural life of the village. All this has given recognition to the work with distinctions and awards such as, the Carles Salvador Award 2012 granted by the Bloc de Progrés Jaume I of Alcúdia, the first Award of readind promotion 2018 given by the Department of Culture of the City of Alzira and the first Educational Innovation Award Ciudad From Alzira given by the Department of Education of the City of Alzira.
Probably because of all this, we are a center that is in increasing demand, which makes the families of the center feel involved in the education of their children. Sociologically, the vast majority of students (approximately 85%) are middle class, although it is a center that works very well for the integration of all types of students. A good number of parents have intermediate or higher education. The second group, much smaller (12%), belongs to a lower-middle social class. And the third group, the minority (3%) consists of foreign students, mainly from Maghreb and Eastern European who are involved in our school.
The center is committed to an innovative line of work and participation with families. This commitment has meant that, especially in recent school years, the presence of students from other areas further away from the city has also been included and therefore, the social and cultural characteristics of the students have been diversified.
Year after year, the center has completed successful projects on a pedagogical level renewal that has made the Alborxí a reference of other schools of Alzira and at the region.
In short, the goals we want to achieve are:
-Generate a collaborative network between different social agents (nursing home, town hall, library, cultural associations) that bring the culture and the relevant characteristics of the environment close to the students by making them participate in the activities and in the decisions that are made.
-Develop the affective abilities of students in all areas of their personality and in relationships with others such as solidarity, with the promotion of attitudes against violence, prejudice of any kind and sexist stereotypes.
-Educate for gender equality by providing contents and materials of a co-educational nature with identity traits that reflect the popular culture of the immediate environment as the backbone of classroom and school projects.
-Welcome and educate all students regardless of their abilities, personal, social, economic and cultural characteristics focusing on the center as an inclusive school.
-Promoting the multiple intelligences of the students, starting from their interests of popular culture and to work all the areas.
-Apply new methodologies such as co-teaching, the use of cooperative structures, learning stations, the empowerment of emotional education…
-Encourage the use of ICT resources as a learning tool to help students search for, obtain and process information.
-To highlight the importance of volunteering (families, retired teachers, professionals related to the world of culture, etc.) to organize activities and be able to execute them.
