Kindergarten Karikakar is situated in Tallinn, the capital of Estonia, in the Haabersti district and it is close to the naturally beautiful pond and park of Õismäe.
In the kindergarten, there are 12 classes in which there are 260 children in total. The children have at their disposal classrooms with two spacious rooms, a hall, a pool and a kitchen where the healthy food is cooked. The kindergarten has 48 employees among whom there are classroom teachers, music and physical education teachers, swimming instructor and teachers assistants who deal with kids every day.
Learning and educational activities are organized by integrating different subjects through playful activities. All activities are organized in an outdoor natural environment or inside the classrooms. When planning learning and educational activities, the kindergarten takes into account its traditional events, national holidays and anniversaries.
One of the uniquenesses of Kindergarten Karikakar is the acknowledging of healthiness. This is expressed by different learning weeks that are intended for both, children and our staff members. Different weeks have special topics to acknowledge the awareness of healthiness and to promote healthy lifestyle in our everyday life. For children who are 4 to 5 years old, there are supportive Estonian language activities. From the beginning of the academic year 2016/2017, the kindergarten began to introduce different possibilities of the digital world and started to integrate them to children’s everyday lives.
The Kindergarten has its own logo, flag and slogan:
KARIKAKAR - THE BEST ENVIRONMENT FOR GROWING UP!
Proposed activities
Main activities involve taking part in the programmed learning and educational activities, planning and carrying through different events in cooperation with the classroom staff. Activities also involve communicating with children, supporting and helping them during different activities. The volunteer will gain his/her first insights of the development of preschoolers.
All work tasks give an opportunity to get acquainted with the local culture and customs through everyday activities, communicate with the kindergarten staff, partners and parents. Volunteers will be able to participate in complementary Estonian language activities for Russian speaking children and they will have a possibility to learn Estonian. The kindergarten has its own fixed schedule, but it is varied and during outdoor learning activities and excursions it gives a chance to get to know the neighborhood.
