Placeat mission and purpose is to defend basic rights and manage resources for PEOPLE WITH INTELLECTUAL DISABILITIES AND THEIR FAMILIES, always guided by the principles and standars of social inclusion. This organization assumes as its own principles and values, those defended by Plena Inclusión movement: the consideration of the person with intellectual disabilities as subject of rights and duties, the importance of families, total quality in the action of organizations and interest in all people with intellectual disabilities. In order to achieve their objectives, Placeat can perform the following activities:

• Exercise any action in defense of the rights of people with intellectual disabilities and their families.
• Make, participate and promote many investigations that are considered accurate to the needs of people with intellectual disabilities.
• Management of Intellectual Disability specific centers or special modules for these, both own and others, whether public or private.
• Establish concerts, conventions, programs and contracts with individuals and legal entities for the development of activities and services for beneficiaries.
• Contributing to the training of specialists in these fields, through collaborative projects with all types of universities, scientific institutes or any other institutions or public or private foundations.
• Programs aimed at creating and/or maintenance of employment for people with disabilities and improving their working conditions.
• Education and/or vocational training.
• Programs that encourage the development of cultural, recreational and sporting activities.
• Research programs and application of new technologies to the field of disability.
• Programs designed to support associative movements.
• Programs to remove barriers, both architectural and urban as communication.
• Organize conferences, exhibitions, seminars and other activities that allow increasing awareness among the public and government.
• Performance of publications, magazines, brochures and book publishing, whether on paper or any other computer media or technology of any material of interest for People with Intellectual Disability and their Families.

Placeat was born in December 1972 in order to provide children and teenagers with intellectual disabilities the same opportunities as everyone else, creating a school and a small workshop. Since then, there are almost five decades of effort, enthusiasm, team work, which has resulted in what we are. Our name, Placeat, Latin verb, meaning "to please" and we picked up the motto of shield of the city of Plasencia, where we were born and grow: "UT PLACEAT DEO ET HOMINIBUS" , which means "To please God and men"; it forces us to act like, supporting and promoting people with intellectual disabilities who are our target of attention and our reason for being. The Charity of the last fifty years, to this social justice, has marked our journey. We achieved that goal but we dreamed to achieve even higher levels of progress and welfare, because at the end of the day, it is always an unfinished task, where there is no discouragement and in which we are all needed.

Placeat has different services and activities to care for people with intellectual disabilities and their families:

- 2 residences: one in Plasencia and other one in San Gil
- occupational workshops center, where users work daily : carpentry, recycling, gardening, leather, packaging......
- day center, where users with a higher degree of disability who need more attention are cared for
- sheltered housing, where the most independent users live
- Leisure club, for the organization of leisure activities during the weekends

Placeat works, like many other associations of Plasencia and region, for the achievement of the Welfare of Persons with Disabilities and the Defense of their Rights.
