Primavera85 was born in 1985 at the initiative of volunteers and parents of people with disabilities eager to support the latter and effectively respond to their needs. Since the very beginning it was providing common support services to people with disabilities, but from 2000 it has radically changed its approach introducing innovative methods into the Cooperative practice and widening the range of services provided.
Currently Primavera85 is an active social enterprise working in partnership with National Public Health System reaching around 250 families in its daily work, and aimed at helping mentally and physically disabled people through educational and rehabilitation assistance. It has 50 workers including educators, social workers, psychologists and a large group of volunteers who support it. The overall objective of Primavera85 is a promotion of human development and social integration ensuring each person is able to exercise his/her rights avoiding exclusion, fostering tolerance and understanding, contributing to well-being and cohesion of the community. It becomes possible engaging with public and private actors of the territory, aspiring solidarity and raising awareness on the importance of integration and support to rehabilitation to people in need. The principles and characteristics of Primavera85 are the following:
- Embeddeddnes: the cooperative is not an isolated center supporting people with disabilities, but, instead, deeply connected to local community, promoting social integration, understanding and cooperation. It is embedded into the local context, operating within the framework of resources and facilities of the territory allowing greater consideration and valorization, as well as engaging with economic and productive resources of the territory;
- Tailor made approach: the staff of the cooperative develop a specific approach to each person, taking into consideration his/her personal characteristics, needs, capacities, thus allowing to identify the most effective way to assist this person an contribute to his/her personal growth;
- Sense of entrepreneurship: with the lack of financial resources at the very beginning, desire to be sustainable and the motivation to grow and assist people, the cooperative has always been looking for a new ways to raise funds, allowing to better address the needs of users and develop new areas of work, providing opportunities for work both to external people and the users of the center;
- Forward-looking and innovation: the cooperative is a highly dynamic organization always seeking for new ideas and ways allowing to improve its activities, promote human development and social integration through management of social and healthcare services, education, training and collaboration.
There are three main areas and centers of activities.
Area Autism hosting people with autism and major behavioral disturbances composed by two centers (Daily center CON-TATTO and Residential community CA’TRENTIN) and afternoon individualized support mainly targeted to children and adolescents . The activities in this area aim at responding to specific needs of adolescents and adults with autism and sever behavioral disorders and range from sport to creative and occupational activities.
Area Disability, composed by three centers: Daily center Roncolato, Daily Center Littorina and Daily Center Antonia Baba. Their activities focus on rehabilitation aspects in the context of multi-disability and on developing and supporting skills of target group improving their cognitive capacities, ability to interact, to act autonomously in certain aspects of daily life.
Job training center aims at re-integrating people with psychophysical disabilities into the working environment providing them with job and skills appropriate for their capacities fostering their social integration.
Accessible tourism operator SVAGA organizing vacation and leisure time of families with members with disabilities providing the latter with all necessary facilities for enjoying traveling in the context of autonomy, safety and comfort. It also includes BERICANDO a cycling tourism project located along the Riviera Berica’s cycle track. Its services are composed by tour operator team; complementary routes; bike rental; Bike Point; equipped van.
Therefore, the Cooperative provides a wide range of activities in correspondence with specific target group needs and abilities, always seeking to develop new ones and improve those existing with an overall goal of contributing to personal growth, increased autonomy, preventing isolation and promoting interaction between centers users and the actors on the territory fostering integration. This, in turn, enhance cohesion, promotes solidarity, active citizenship and sense of responsibility in society. Primavera85, therefore, represents a unique and suitable place for volunteers to learn from as well to express and try to implement in practice their initiatives.
