We are a primary school that educates children from 6 - 15 years old. There are 18 general (mainstream) education classes as well as 3 special unit classes for children with special needs. At the moment more than 370 students attend our school as well as 21 students in our adapted education programme who are being education by 44 teachers with diverse expertise and experience.
The students and the teachers make a lot of effort to be an active part our community and for the local community to feel the lively and connected school spirit that we are very proud of. Therefore we organise and take part in many events in our town. We have participated in the international programme Eco-School for 22 years, the national Health School programme as well as Cultural school programme for 8 years. Action programmes of all these projects are planned to achieve the optimal and healthy development of our students, the positive terms towards the environment and all beings as well as to assure students to express themselves, gain positive values and good self-esteem and to evolve into responsible and well-educated youth.
in the last few years we contributed in several European projects, in order to address modern challenges in society and internationalisation:
- European Social Fund program "Raising the social and cultural capital in local communities fore development of equal opportunities and promotion of social inclusion"
- European Social Fund program "The challenges of multicultural so-existence"
- European Social Fund program "Healthy lifestyle for pupils"
- Erasmus+ "CLILinACTION"
- Erasmus+ "Student . Teacher practice with AVANS School in Netherlands"
- Cooperation with Little star school in India Varanasi (Pupils letters exchange)
- European solidarity corps program
We emphasise a mutual peer communication and teacher-pupil communication. Pupils are encouraged to express tolerance towards diversity especially since pupils with special needs attend our school as well as many pupils from different cultural and language backgrounds. The vision of our school is aimed at optimal development for each and every pupil. We offer pupils a range of activities from different school subjects area where they can develop and upgrade their abilities, knowledge, skills and competence.
We believe in a holistic approach to children and pay attention to provide opportunities outside your typically academic subjects as well. That we achieve by incorporating different subjects and building resilience within our regular programme as well as offering several extracurricular activities like drama, arts and crafts, hiking, science, herbal garden, Hi5 project, vocal choirs, tutoring to name a few. We are very proud of our active engagement pupils who have been recognised as gifted in such areas as intellectual, creative, artistic, sports or specific academic fields. their highly above average abilities of thinking and extraordinary achievements on different learning areas require a variety of different activities. These are being organised each school year to strengthen pupils' abilities, upgrade their knowledge, and develop their entrepreneurial spirit and creativity.
As a school we aim towards a holistic development of our children so we don't focus solely on academia. We believe, that encouraging empathy, diversity and broadening horizons positively supports the development of healthy and confident children, that will be an active part/member of our community and our society. volunteering and participating in ESC has shown to support these philosophy greatly. With the help of this program and our ESE volunteers children have been learning about different cultures, countries, experienced variety of activities, strengthening their social skills and build on their self-esteem. A lot of them also overcame their fear about using a foreign language and for some it meant they actually wanted to try. Therefore we continue to believe that being a part of ESC programme can bring a lot of positive outcomes for everybody - our children, professionals and to our leadership. We are also very happy to say, that our volunteers over the past few years have reported to have a very positive experience, felt they had an opportunity to build upon their strengths and were connecting with people of diverse cultural, social and professional background.
Being a part of ESC enriches our daily life and environment as well as offer activities and opportunities most of our children would never get to have. As a multicultural school we believe, that with participating within this project, we contribute on a local, national and international level as well as support the holistic development of everybody involved.
