The seed of Funkibator began to sprout in 2008 and in 2011 the legal non-profit organization was formed as the result of a three-year Swedish Inheritance Fund projects. The name Funkibator is an invented name that origins from the words disability and incubator (greenhouse) We are a regional organization and our main target group is children, youth and young adults. Funkibator Ideell Förening is for people regardless of diagnosis as we want to focus on the activities and not the diagnosis. Even so, Funkibator has a certain focus towards movement impairment, visual impairment, neuropsychiatric diagnosis as well as hidden impairments. Our goal is to become a national organization and establish the organization all over Sweden. We offer different activities in the organization and our motto is that it should be concrete, fun and social. Example of different activites are: Movie nights, social club, musikquiz. Other activities have included bowling, wheelchair handball, winter holiday sports camp, summer camp, badminton, study visits etc. We feel it is important that our target group meet new people and gain a bigger network, both digitally and in real life. We also cooperate with Växjö municipality and offer summer jobs for disabled youth. We are very digital and prefer to do things very concrete. However, we draw no limits what the diagnosis is, the age, where you live, who you are. We welcome all who simply want to hang out with and have fun. Funkibator is persuing many development issues and we take many new initiatives. We develop ideas, Methods and activities. Funkibator is definitely a product of the new society where technology, the Internet, information and communication are very important parts. Today's "new" society is our natural work environment, and here we thrive. In Funkibator we listen to and let the people be seen. We want the thoughts, ideas and commitment that must come from below. Here, each one able to make its mark, influencing and do just what it thinks is fun and rewarding.
