Heraklion Chamber is one of the largest Chambers of commerce in Greece (one of top five), accounting for more than 20,000 members from all sectors of the economy. The Technical Institute of Heraklion Chamber (TIHC) was established with a Decree from the Ministry of National Economy in 1950. This decree designates the operation of a professional training center with a regional dimension. In 2001 TIHC was certified as a peripheral Vocational Training Centre for the Region of Crete in the following sectors: Informatics, Tourism & Services sector, Economy & Business Administration and Transportation & Technical Professions.
The Technical Institute of Heraklion Chamber of Commerce (TIHC) and Industry is employing highly educated personnel (Ph.D., MSc., MBA), has 2 recently renovated fully equipped computer rooms, 9 training courses rooms that offer full capacity and operation with intranet, Wi-Fi, and printing facilities. The TIHC is implementing New Training & Human Based Educational participative Models, offers Certification on computer skills and is developing strategic co-operations in the training field. The TIHC is certified with ISO 9001 quality certificate. Several actions on adult consulting have been also delivered during the last three years that gave TIHC a vast experience on entrepreneurial needs and horizontal skill development. The Technical Institute of Heraklion Chamber of Commerce and Industry works in close cooperation with the Technological Educational Institute of Crete, the University of Crete, The Science and Technology Park of Crete. TIHC has direct access via the Heraklion Chamber in a series of European Networks that supports SMEs with the most important being: The Enterprise Europe Network (EEN), Insuleur – Network of the Insular Chambers of Commerce and Industry of the E.U., Arab-Hellenic Chamber of Commerce and Development. Since 1950 TIHC has offered more than 300.000 hours of professional training programmes. These programmes were funded by:
• Labor Ministry: Training Programs for employed and unemployed (men-women)
• Public Organization of Employment of the Labor Force (OAED): Training programs for self-occupied and young entrepreneurs
• Region of Crete (DISA): Training programs for employees in Small & Medium Enterprises.
• Hellenic Organization of Small Medium Sized Enterprises and Handicrafts (EOMMEX): Training programs for entrepreneurs and employed.
