APOLLO e.V. - the association for projects in ecology, agriculture and rural development - was founded in 1991 by agricultural students in Bayreuth (Bavaria). The main goals include promoting rural and village development, modern and sustainable agriculture in Eastern Europe and mutual cultural exchange between Eastern and Western Europe. Internship programs for agricultural students, each with several multi-day training seminars, enable around 90 young people from Eastern Europe to get to know agriculture in Germany as well as the language and culture. Numerous volunteers are involved on site in Germany in the supervision and training of the interns. Language mediators from Germany, in turn, get to know the partner countries through language teaching experiences to prepare the interns and specialist excursions.
In addition, APOLLO is also organising numerous other short- and mid-term projects.
APOLLO has a strong civil society network in the cultural, educational and agricultural sectors in Germany and Eastern Europe with a focus on Ukraine, Belarus, Russia and Poland. The members of the association have a common interest in topics of agriculture, ecology, sustainability as well as in the linguistic and cultural area of Eastern Europe. In addition to experts from various agricultural areas, people with an interest in languages, education and international and cultural exchange are involved in the work of APOLLO.
