Our school is called Kohtla-Järve Maleva Põhikool (Kohtla-Järve Maleva Basic School). It is in thenorth eastern part of Estonia, in Kohtla-Jarve town. Our school is unusual; it has three streams:students who study in Russian, students who study in Estonian language and the immersion classes.Representatives of many nationalities study in our school, our children are both from the town andfrom the countryside. We have children from the families of immigrants. In spite of all these problemsour school takes active part in different projects, and wins in regional and state competitions. Our school has three main priorities: 1) to bring up active citizens; 2) to develop leadershipcapabilities among our students 3) to develop a harmonious and happy person. To achieve all thesewe use the classical methods of education as well as the extracurricular activities such as schooltheatre, studying trips, career lessons, etc.Although Kohtla-Järve is a small town, there are representatives of different nationalities withdifferent social and cultural backgrounds. The idea of cultural diversity in a big community matchesperfectly with our school profile of courage and anti-racism in the domain of which our students showmany initiatives and have strong competences. Our school is participating in internationals projects to share our experience in organising multi-cultural society and to let our students and teachers improve their language skills. We like to shareour knowledge of history as we have a lot of historical places of different eras. We develop ourstudents in tolerance, understanding of people of different cultures and religions and the meeting ofyoung people with the social, every day life will help all participants of this project to reach this aim.
