Beschreibung der Einrichtung

The StudentInnenkinderhort is part of an initiative founded 15 years ago by students of the University of Vienna to provide child care for the children of students. There are two groups: one Kindergartengroup for children until 4 years old and one (the hort) after school care groups for children from 6 to 10 years old. There can be one volunteer in the Hort and aonther volunteer in der Kindergarten.
Both are based on the principles of free learning and Montessori: the children define what they want to learn and in which way they want to learn. The Hort offers activities and games through which the children learn and in this way complements the regular school.
Our philosophy is that a good self-esteem is the basis for the positive development of personality. The children are helped to realize their strengths and see their weaknesses as something that can be worked on.
The Hort offers the children after school care between 12 and 6 p.m. : lunch, help with the homework and leisure time activities.
The majority of the free time activities take place outdoors: sports (swimming, football, hiking) plays an important part of the programme, but also excursions to the theatre, to the parks, or special events are a fix part of the programme. If the weather is not nice enough to go outside, many indoor games and creative activities are offered to the children.
The kindergarten starts at 9:00 and is open until 5 pm. The volunteer will be included in the daily activities and accompany the peadagogues in the afternoon excursions.
