The municipality of Øvre Eiker is situated in the county of Buskerud - Eastern part of Norway. The
municipality has approx. 19 000 inhabitants and 1200 employees. There are one town and four
villages in Øvre Eiker. Our vision: "Together we create a viable Øvre Eiker" is well anchored in our
organization and among our inhabitants. Our main goals, together with our inhabitants, are that Øvre
Eiker should be a good place to live and grow up. We have long tradition with cultural work. From
early times, fertile soil and forest were sources for livelihood. Sawmills, and later the paper industry
provided good for export to Europe. The discovery of the largest gold treasure in the Nordic region, dating approx. to year 850 AD, indicates early relations with other countries.
Besides focusing on maintaining the cultural heritage in our municipality we are an organization in
constant development. Innovation and interaction with non-governmental organization and volunteer
groups is high on the agenda. Some of our main aims are to focus on how young people actively can
contribute to the local society, by being involved in different projects, youth council, non
governmental organizations and volunteer work.
