With approximately 100,000 inhabitants, Valongo is strategically located in the Metropolitan Area of Porto, with excellent accessibility, on the doorstep of the International Airport, the sea port and Oporto, the second largest city in the country.
Valongo has a rich and diverse identity, with unique regional features and is now strategically focused on the construction of a qualified, balanced and catalytic territory.
Very simply, the Municipality of Valongo has its focus on its people and on the life in community. The Municipality firmly believes that people are a precious instrument that help to collectively and individually develop and stimulate active citizenship, and because of that, bets on processes that require a high degree of transparency and rigor, which are essential conditions for a good public management in current times.
As a Municipality the target groups are all ages, but there is a clear emphasis on Youth and Youth related projects, and that can be verified based on the activities that are organized. One should take into consideration the Youth Participatory Budget, which is currently on its sixth edition, and has changed significantly the stance of young people towards decision-making processes, as well as the level of participation in their community. Valongo also bets on events that promote the engagement of young people, including the participation in the European Local Democracy Week in October, every year. Our Municipality also dedicates a whole month to Youth in May, in which activities are organized to promote spaces of interaction among youth, including the celebration of the European Youth Week, with fun activities and also trainings for youth workers.
