Pahumi Association is founded as a result of the founders experience working with children and the desire to create opportunities to children that belong to monoparental families or who are in social and financial difficulties. We are offering access to those children to non formal educational activities, sport and outdoor activities, recreative and we teach them to improve their handmade skills. Another part is the integration of those children in a social environment with children the same age and similar interests. By exposing the children to this environment, we hope to broaden they horizons and to have a positive influence to their school performance.
We have reach children aged 4 to 12 years old, and for this we collaborate with teachers from schools and kinder garden in order to find children who most needed the type of activity of we offer. We target children that came from monoparental families and are lacking the opportunities to participate in non-formal educational programs.
Our regular activities include summer, autumn and spring camps, after school activities, fundraising events and other social events related to the specific of our association. The camps are structured as a daylong program, from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. and we provide the transport, activities and the food needed for everyday. In these camps, the children have the opportunity to interact with children coming from different social environments, and together they learn how to trust each other, discover the natural environment, play with the animals, try out different crafts, experience through dancing, singing and playing. The after school activities include not just help with doing their homework, but aims to develop them personally and socially, by involving them in games, short trips in the woods and other outdoor activities (biking, hiking, caring for animals, zip line, outdoor games). We transport children from school to our location, and then back home, and we also cover the costs for lunch and dessert.
Another activity that we organize is birthday parties for children coming from foster homes. We believe that every child deserves love and respect and we want to build in children that self-trust and self-worth by celebrating the day they have come into this world. We take care of every part of the organizing process, including transport, pizza and food, activities that keep the children engaged for the entire party, such as treasure hunt, climbing on interior wall, zip line, hexathlon, karaoke, dancing, billiards, air hockey and other outdoor and indoor games. In organizing these birthday parties, we sometimes partner with other organizations or companies that want to bring a smile on these children’s faces.
At our location we also have a little animal farm, where children are able to interact with animals, specific to the countryside. The best part about all these activities that we are doing is that they all take place in the heart of a village nearby the city of Cluj, where children, and parents alike, are having the chance to be far away from the business and noise of the city. They can relax and enjoy their time in nature, helping them to connect to the natural rhythm and to the spirit of the Romanian traditional landscape.
