Movement for Peace –MPDL- is a non-religious, non-profit organisation founded in 1983 with headquarters in Madrid. Within the historical context in the 80s in Spain, marked by the early years of a new democracy, Movement for Peace joined the pacifist and grassroots movements in Europe, advocating for a greater social mobilisation and participation.
Our principles are:
● We believe in a world where public policies are people-oriented.
● We believe in a solidarity-based economy, where prosperity is shared and enjoyed in a sustainable way.
● We support active and engaged citizenship, where people take over their own development processes.
We aim to promote peace, equality and human rights through our 17 delegations in Spain and in 11 countries and territories: Colombia, Guatemala, Nicaragua, Cuba, Morocco, Saharan refugee camps in Tindouf, Mali, Niger, O.P.T., Lebanon and Jordan.
Human Rights, Gender, Migration, International Protection and Education for Peace are the main areas of our projects and actions in Spain and internationally, with more than 705.800 beneficiaries per year.
Social Action in Spain
Since 1995, we support vulnerable groups such as migrants, women, youth and vulnerable and substitute families. In 2017, we carried out more than 90 projects, reaching over 50,000 persons.
We focus our work in four areas:
- Support for migrants.
- Training and employability.
- Education for peace.
- Volunteerism and social participation.
International Action
In 2017, more than 50 projects were carried out in 11 countries/territories, reaching over 750,000 persons. We work in different sectors, depending on the context and situation of the intervention areas.
In the area of humanitarian aid, we are involved in Lebanon, Jordan, Palestine, Mali and Saharawi camps (Algeria), by providing assistance in complex crisis and emergency contexts.
At present, Movement for Peace- MPDL is one of the main NGOs in Spain and it has about 300 employees and 400 volunteers. In recent years, MPDL has increased the number of programmes addressed to refugee and asylum seekers, has consolidated and increased its presence in different territories and has made a major qualitative leap in terms of international volunteering thanks to the EU Aid Volunteers initiative.
