The Finno-Ugric Film Foundation was established in 2014 with the aim of supporting the filmmaking and cultural activities of Finno-Ugric people and other indigenous people in order to preserve their cultures and languages and promote linguistic and cultural diversity across Europe and beyond. We also aim to empower local communities, and especially the youth, by creating opportunities for them to learn about filmmaking and film language. This allows them to share their cultures and experiences through filmmaking in their own (often small) languages.
In order to achieve our goals, we organise the following events and activities:
1. An annual international Finno-Ugric Film Festival (FUFF), where we show Finno-Ugric films and also short experimental films film from all over the world, as well as run different workshops;
2. Film screenings: we screen films (mostly Finno-Ugric films from our festival) locally and internationally and make showcases in schools and at other film festivals;
3. Filmmaking masterclasses and workshops with film professionals;
4. Forest Film School: we conduct 12-day long filmmaking camps for the Finno-Ugric youth;
5. Expeditions to indigenous people;
6. Creating (and then maintaining) Finno-Ugric Film Database;
7. Creating (and then maintaining) Finno-Ugric Wikipedia.
