Monkton Wyld Court (MWC) is an education centre for sustainable living that provides courses and volunteering experiences, and finances its educational activities by running a Country Guest House. It is located in the hamlet of Monkton Wyld, amidst the rolling hills of Dorset and within walking distance of south west England’s Jurassic coast. The Guest House is a stunning Grade II listed rectory built in 1848 as an early Victorian example of neo-Gothic architecture inspired by Pugin. The surrounding grounds feature a micro dairy, walled kitchen garden, low impact dwellings, pasture for our resident cows and a small woodland stream.
MWC is run and maintained by a residential community workers cooperative, combined with the help of local volunteers and short-term residential volunteers from all over the world. Currently we have twelve adult community members and six children. Monkton Wyld Court is a Registered Charity and has a board of trustees who oversee the running of the centre.

AIMS AND ETHOS
At MWC, we aim to demonstrate intelligent adaptation to the world's environmental, social and economic changes; to provide a place where a diverse range of people can come to learn and share practical skills in sustainable and communal living, and allow space for creative expression and personal development for all who stay with us, and also into the wider local community.
Ever since its days as an alternative boarding school in the 1940s, the emphasis at MWC has been on teaching skills for self-sufficiency and countryside living – pupils learned woodworking, gardening, farming, cooking and so on. In 1982 MWC became a centre for education on sustainable living, and developing and educating on this low impact way of life remains our central ethos today.

TARGET GROUPS
We would like to use this programme to welcome anyone wanting to learn about communal living in a sustainable way, land-based skills (gardening, farming, land managing, cheese making, wood work, wetland systems, composting, low impact natural building, etc), vegetarian cooking with produce from our garden, and running a sustainable low impact guest house. We can offer an inspiring and educational experience for anyone who wants to learn, develop and help in any or all of our key areas.
We feel we can offer an excellent opportunity to those who possibly don't know how to face the next few years of their lives, for example young people making decisions before entering higher education, people who may feel unfulfilled with their current way of living, especially in the current climate, and anyone curious about getting outside and looking at alternative ways of life. MWC provides a different way of living communally, close to nature, learning and sharing. We would like to be able to offer a chance to all those who want to experience something different, but haven't the means or the opportunity to do it.
